FACTS AND DISTANCES

Carina Bruwer started her August 2004 swim around Danger Point at Romansbaai, finishing 11km further on the Kleinbaai side at Kruismansbaai. No sharks were sited on the swim, and Carina's biggest hassle was fighting off a school of jelly fish for an hour during the swim, and swimming against heavy chop around the point. The water was a chilly 15 degrees, but temperature increases considerably during summer months (October until April).

The decision on whether or not to call the swim can be left to the experienced pilot, who knows the weather and sea conditions inside out. It would be advisable to prepare to stay in Gansbaai for at least 4 days if you want to make an attempt.
