SEA POINT SWIMMING POOL

Regarded by many as the most breathtaking public swimming pool in the world, the Sea Point Pool complex consists of an Olympic size pool, plus 2 splash pools for kids, and a fully equipped springboard diving pool. Built on the beachfront, these filtered seawater pools are part of the scenic Sea Point Pavilion. Although the pools are not heated, the facility is open throughout the year, and a handful of Capetonians persist with their training at the Pavilion through Winter, when water temperatures drop to about 12 degrees Celcius.

On any given day in Summer you will find a colourful mix of locals and tourists soaking up the sun, professional and recreational swimmers ploughing up and down the pool, and children (and adults!) playing in the crystal-clear water.

If you are a long distance swimmer (or a prospective one), and in search of like minded company, Sunday mornings would be a good time for you to meet the regulars. Many of the Cape Long Distance Swimming legends should be training - veterans like Peter Bales, Hugh Tucker, Tony Scalabrino, Theo Yach, Otto Thanning, Tony Sellmeyer, Steve Klugman, Carina Bruwer, Barry Cutler, and many more. Between them you would be able to count about 150 Robben Island crossings - but who's counting?! And if you can't make Sunday mornings, try weekdays around lunchtime, when most of the regulars are trying to improve their speed, distance or mood!

Summer (10 October until +-16 April): 07:00 - 19:00
Winter (17 April until +-10 October): 08:30 - 17:00
